At our visitor lunch today after church one of our new members remarked that for they felt like they had been in the desert but in the past few weeks have been in an oasis. Praise God for using our worship services to have such a positive influence in someone's life. Those, like myself, who take a very public role in our services have a great responsibility to be prepared and to do our assigned jobs well. However, I want everyone to know that your friendliness, thoughtful questions, and genuine interest in our visitors and new members goes a long way to encourage people in their spiritual growth. May all who pass through our doors find a spiritual oasis for their souls.
Next Sunday is Father's Day. For the past couple of years we have held "Man Church" on Father's Day, complete with a sport's theme and manly gifts. This year we're going to stick with our Bible Adventure theme and build the service around the story of Noah. We will be encouraging our men (and everyone else) to "Stand Against a Flood of Evil".

No "Man Church" then? Or will the sermon focus on men? On their influence? On encouraging them? I think it is just as important to focus on Fathers as it was to focus on Mothers. Honestly I am sad that there will not be the "man church" (I won't be here anyways, but that's beside the point). I thought it was a great outreach to the men of the congregation and a great encouragement to them. How powerful could it be to see a film made with children talking about their dads? Why don't we do that sort of stuff? Why don't we go all out for dads? Perhaps we are just sending another signal that dads just are not that important in family life. I dunno, just some thoughts.
Now, now Jeremy; calm down. Just because we're not doing an official "man church" doesn't mean we're not going to celebrate the godly dads among us who are doing a great job. We're just keeping things in line with the series we've already started.
I can't tell you what all will be happening this coming Sunday because that would ruin the surprise. Just make sure you listen to the audio version when you return. If I do my job right, our dads will feel honored and have a good sense of how important they are. Have a great trip!
